Fitness Director, Team Building, Workshops and more...

You that old saying, "When it rains, it pours?" How often is that true?  Most of the time, right? That certainly was the case these past two months.

Now, don't get me wrong. It has been 'raining' but in a good way. First, I was made Fitness Director for an awesome wellness center that I currently train clients in.  Although 90% of my clients are 'in-home' private training or internet based, I do train a few of my clients at a gym. Some clients just love a gym atsmosphere and want to save home for complete relaxation after a long day. It's been my experience, however, that most clients are incline to keep to their workouts if they know I'll be there waiting for them...at their front door. To each their own, I say. Whatever keeps you on your program/routine. I enjoy training in whatever space I am.

The wellness center moved into a building that tripled our gym floor space AND created two whole cardio rooms, yay! So, I've been interviewing potential group exercise instructors and personal trainers. Implementing a new software program that will streamline class enrollment, developing contracts, ordering gym equipment (oh what joy!) and that's just the start.  I'll be posting more about this, so stay tuned.

Secondly, I had the privilege of being invited to give a Hoop Workshop to the Long Beach Junior League.

The Jurior League is an amazing orgainization that, in their own words,

"...is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. The Junior League of Long Beach reaches out to women of all races, religions, and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism."

Can we just say WOW! I was so honored to be invited to their team-building retreat. Hooping is an activity that invites fun and laughter, encouragement and edification. We learned, played, helped, laughed and relaxed. Such beautiful ladies who blossomed into beautiful hoopers!

In-between all of this, I'm gearing up to host a Hoop Workshop on Whidby Island off the coast of Washington State. My talented sister, 'can-do-anything' brother and creative ADORABLE niece all live there. So I'll catching up with fam and sharing the Hoop Love with new beginners. The workshop's topic is "Connect with you inner dancer by exploring movement and meditation while hooping". I.can.not.wait!!!

And not to forget, I had my One Year Saturday Morning Hoop Class Anniversary on May 19. It was such a blast. But I'm saving that for another post.

Whew!

I've missed all of you but it's been an amazing two months and am blessed with work.  And although there were times I literally fell asleep while eating dinner (my poor husband) it is all worth it. It's what I love to do.

Catching up with you, I feel better!

Ah Sundays...

Sunday is a day to relax...or at least it's suppose to be.  Lately (like the last 5 years) it seems that entire month's of Sundays are fill up with 'things to do'.  Or places to be, people to see, groceries to buy, laundry to wash, oh the list can be endless.

But today, (well after a hooping workshop I gave this morning)  we were able to have a relaxing brunch with some dear new friends, look at a couple of 'open houses' and then...relax in the park.  Nothing special, just a blanket, some sun, some shade, my husband, the dogs and my hoops.  Just some glorious 'hang time'.

It's amazing what being outdoors in the fresh air can do for your soul.

When we came home even our cat, Tigger, was snoozing in his 'Bachelor Pad'.  No pesky dogs to disturb his nap.   Ah, Sundays...

What do you do when you find some 'down time'?  I'd love to know!

Enjoy your Sundays, you'll feel better.

30/30 Hooping Challenge...Done!

So Hooping.org put out this challenge:  Hoop for 30 days for 30 minutes.  Simple, right?  uhmm...not so much.
Shoulder Hooping practice

First of all, I found it challenging just to find 30 free minutes to hoop.  Really?  Sheesh, what AM I doing with all my time?  If I'm that busy shouldn't my life be...well...perfect? organized? relaxed? Again, not so much.  This challenge made me realize that I:

1.  Schedule WAY too much into my day and
2.  Allow myself too much, what I call, Time-Sucking activities (see post)

Get a grip Sharon!  Part of all this is that I actually think I like to have 10 projects, meetings, phone calls, activities going all at once.  Where I learned this, who knows, or maybe that's just the way the world is spinning these days.  Maybe I just place that burden on my self and I think I like being this way.  Because it's what's expected or at least I perceive it to be expected of me.  Don't you ever feel, just a little bit, guilty if you just complete only one task for the day and then just...wait for it...relaxed?  or read a book? or took a nap? or ?  Hummm...what a crazy idea, or is it?

So much of what I do, and quite possibly you too, is that we get so caught up in all the things that are expected that we really don't decide if it's what we really want to do.  Interesting, isn't it?

My hoops calling me to come play

The second thing I found during this 30/30 Challenge is that I need devote the time and ample amounts of it to the art of hooping.  Which carries over into anything else you want to be good at.  I'm not going to beat myself up for things that just need a whole lot of time and effort to succeed in.  Calm the heck down, I tell myself now.  If I'm not getting this the first or second or third time around, keep at it.  And chill out about it too.  Whoa.  What a concept.

But don't drop the ball either.  Sometimes I was so exhausted and it was 11:30 at night (yes, that's P.M.) and I still hadn't completed my 30 minutes.  So there I was in my p.j.'s hooping in my living room.  One of the rules of the challenge was to post about your hooping every day.  I know if that rule wasn't in place, I wouldn't have have kept it up.  Putting my commitment out there was really the impetuous to helping me stay on track and to not throw in the proverbial towel.  Accountability partners, whether known or unknown in cyber-space, really does make a difference.

Yes, I have cheetah print p.j.'s
So there you have it, 30 days of hooping for 30 minutes...done!  I'm better for it and my hooping skills are better for it.  Not sure about my pets.  All of them have gotten a bit too close to the hoop.  No harm done but they head out the door when the hoop comes out.  As for my husband, well, he thinks I was kind of crazy hooping so late at night but also loves me for it.  He likes that I hung in there and finished what I started.  And the satisfaction of being able to say, "I did it!" is heavenly.

Thanks to Hooping.org for this challenge, thanks to those of you who encouraged along the way and a special thanks to my husband who always supports me in all the 'crazy' things I do.  Muah!

What it looks like, "in-the-hoop"

Ever think about doing your own 30/30 challenge?  Let me know, I'd be honored to be your accountability partner.
